How Farhi is Leading the Charge for a Zero Waste Future

It’s Zero Waste Week, and we’re here to shout from the rooftops about our ongoing mission to lighten our environmental footprint and do better every single day. We believe sustainability isn't just a goal, it’s our way of life. Whether it’s in our choice of ingredients or how we package our delicious treats, we’re constantly evolving to make sure we’re doing our part for the planet.

Packaging with Purpose: A Balanced Approach

While going completely plastic-free might sound ideal, it could actually impact food quality and increase waste in the long run. That’s why we’ve found a sustainable middle ground by using recyclable PET plastic. Right now, a large 90% of our packaging is fully recyclable, and we’re proud to be leading the charge with NatureFlex, a fantastic compostable plastic made from renewable resources like wood pulp. This clever material can be composted at home or in industrial settings, reducing our footprint even further!

But we don’t stop there. We’re also committed to using FSC-certified or recycled paper, demonstrating our dedication to sustainable sourcing. Our vision? To deliver a fully recyclable product, and we’re working hard to get there with even more innovative materials and packaging solutions that keep waste at bay without sacrificing quality.

Thinking Outside the (Recycling) Box

Our passion for waste reduction doesn’t end with packaging. We’ve invested in top recycling technology that allows us to recycle up to 98% of our cardboard and plastic waste, meaning less waste for the planet and more peace of mind for all of us. This clever kit ensures everything is processed efficiently and ends up in recycling plants, NOT landfill.

We’ve also taken a deep dive into digital, cutting our paper use by swapping to electronic documents across the board. It’s a win-win: less paper waste and a smoother, more efficient way to work! On top of that, we’re all about reusable containers for transporting goods, which slashes our carbon footprint and cuts down on packaging waste.

10 Fun Ways to Support Zero Waste Week

Here are 10 fun and impactful ways you can join us in going green:

  1. Join Local Recycling Drives: Check out what’s happening in your area. Many councils run special recycling events, so gather up those old electronics, batteries, and plastics, and head to a drop-off point. Recycle Your Electricals is a great charity set-up all year round for this.

  1. Shop with Brands that Care: Support companies that walk the talk on sustainability. Think of brands like us, using recyclable packaging and NatureFlex compostable plastics.
  1. Ditch Single-Use Plastics: Make it a game! How many days can you go without using a single-use plastic item? Bring along your reusable bags, bottles, and cups to your local refill shop, and you’ll be surprised how easy it is.

  1. Get Your Hands Dirty with a Community Clean-Up: Rally your friends, family, or local groups for a litter-picking adventure in your neighbourhood, park, or beach. It’s not just good for the planet; it’s fun and rewarding, especially when the kids get involved!

  1. Compost, Compost, Compost: Don’t waste those vegetable peels and coffee grounds, compost them! Turn your food scraps into rich soil for your garden, or even your houseplants.

  1. Take on a Zero Waste Challenge: Challenge yourself and your friends to produce no waste for a week. Share your stories, successes, and hinders on social media, as who knows who you might inspire?
  1. Swap Don’t Shop: Host a swap party and trade books, clothes, or household items. It’s the perfect way to refresh your wardrobe or bookshelf without spending a penny!
  1. Go Bulk or Go Home: Check out your local bulk or zero waste store and buy what you need, sans packaging. Don’t forget to bring your own containers to fill up!
  1. Learn and Share: Dive into webinars, workshops, or events about zero waste living. Share what you learn with everyone you know, because knowledge is power!

  2. Mindful Shopping: Think before you buy! Choose products with minimal packaging and look for durable, reusable alternatives instead of disposables.

By incorporating these small but mighty steps into your life, you’re making a big impact. Let’s celebrate Zero Waste Week together by embracing habits that make our world cleaner and greener! Here’s to a more sustainable future—one delicious step at a time!
